Adam and Eve

Hi all! Welcome back…today’s lesson is from Genesis 2 and 3. Last year’s lesson and craft can be found HERE.

Yesterday we learned about God creating everything and on His last day of work, He created man. The Bible says God said “Let us make man in OUR own image.” (the Father, son and Holy Spirit–isn’t it great to know God made us like Himself??) God took some dirt from the ground and made man from the dirt. God breathed into his nose and gave him life. He put the man in charge of everything else He had made–which meant man could name everything and be in charge, but also that he needed to take care of everything. God named the man Adam.

God knew it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone so he put Adam to sleep and took one of his ribs (the bones near your heart) and from that bone He made a woman, named Eve. (Isn’t that kind of a silly way to make people? It kind of seems funny…but God knew exactly what He was doing!) Adam and Eve would be partners, and work together and keep each other company.

God had made a perfect garden for Adam and Eve to live in. Only perfect things were there and it was wonderful with no sadness or fear or anything yucky. In the middle of the garden were two trees–the tree of Life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God said Adam and Eve could eat any of the food in the garden EXCEPT for the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. “If you eat from that tree, you will die,” God told them.

One day, a serpent (a snake) came to Eve and said “Did God REALLY say you can’t eat from any tree in this garden?”

“Oh! We can eat from ANY tree–except THAT one…if we eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, God says we’ll die!”

“Really?” said the snake. “You won’t REALLY die! God just knows if you eat the fruit from THAT tree that you’ll be as smart as He is and you’ll know what’s good and evil…He just doesn’t want you to be as smart as Him. Really…it’s ok. You can eat the fruit.”

The snake lied. God DID tell them they would die if they ate the fruit. But Eve didn’t listen to God. She listened to the snake. She disobeyed God. That’s called sin. It was the first time someone sinned. And then she got Adam to eat some too..he sinned too. God knew right away.

When they ate the fruit, Adam and Eve DID suddenly know the difference between good and bad and they KNEW they had done something bad. So they tried to hide from God…but of course you can’t hide from God. He found them.

God knew they had to leave the garden. Now that they had sinned and knew good from bad, they couldn’t stay and eat from the tree of life–they couldn’t live forever, because they were no longer perfect and God never wanted people to live forever in their yucky sin. So He came to them and told them they couldn’t stay in the garden anymore. They had to leave and they would have to work hard now to get their food. And they would be away from God.

Adam and Eve left the garden and began a much harder life away from God…but God was always watching, always providing and He had a plan. HE, perfect God, would provide a way for Adam and Eve (and all of us who sin) to come back to Him and live forever. He would send His son Jesus to be a man like us and die INSTEAD of us. Jesus would be perfect and able to give us the fruit from the tree of life. He would take our consequence of dying and instead, give us back to God to live forever. ISN’T THAT WONDERFUL?!

For our craft today, we made puppets! We used three socks, some tacky glue (you could also use hot glue or super glue), some googly eyes and some old ribbons (but get as creative as you like!)

We made an Adam, an Eve, and a snake. Then we took turns being the characters and retelling the story.

Thanks for joining us! Love to you all!

Creation

Hello all! Welcome!

Today’s lesson is from Genesis 1-2:2.

Today we made a book. To see our craft from last year see HERE.

So we started by using a big dinner plate and some 12 x 12 card stock. (You could also use a smaller plate and some construction paper. Yours doesn’t even have to be a circle book, it could be regular paper. The front of our book says “Creation Book, Genesis 1” (not pictured). We used a hold punch and some ring clips to hold our book together but you could use string to tie it together or just staple the pages if you like. (You can purchase ring clips at office supply stores or Amazon.)

For our books, we can sing them to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”

Our song can be found here.

For the first page we traced our plate on a white and black piece of paper and cut them each in half. Then we taped the 1/2 together. On the back of our cover page we wrote “On the first day of creation God made: DARKNESS and LIGHT and God saw that IT WAS GOOD.”

IMG_6276

For the next day we took a piece of light blue paper and scribbled some clouds (our white wasn’t showing up, so we made blue clouds.) You could also paint or use cotton balls for your clouds. We used tissue paper scraps for our water. Again, you could use any material you like to be the water.

Our text is now written on the back of the darkness and light page and it reads “On the second day of creation God made: WATER and SKY”

So for our song we sing, “On the second day of creation God made: WATER and SKY, *flip back to first page* DARKNESS and LIGHT, and God saw that it was GOOD.

IMG_6277

The next page we used a blue circle and some green patterned paper (which is showing up yellow in the picture). Then we took some popsicle sticks to be trees and I had some Hawaiian flowers from an old lei. You could also just color on some trees and flowers, or use some from your yard.

Our text/song here goes “On the third day of creation God made: LAND and PLANTS, *back to page 2* WATER and SKY, *back to page 1* DARKNESS and LIGHT, and God saw that it was GOOD.”IMG_6278

Next is day 4. We used dark blue paper and glue with glitter to make some shimmery galaxies. I also had some sticky-backed foam stars which you can get at any craft store. I think mine were from Hobby Lobby.

Now the song goes: “On the fourth day of creation God made: SUN, MOON, and STARS, LAND and PLANTS, WATER and SKY, DARKNESS and LIGHT, and God saw that it was GOOD.”

IMG_6279

For the next day we took two pieces of colored paper (for this you can use any color you’d like–we chose purple and orange to spice things up). We did the top half in feathers and the bottom half in scales. I had these foam handprints that we layered to make fish scales, but you could use tissue paper, any kind of small circles, some goldfish crackers, or just draw some fish and birds if you like.

Now the text/song says: “On the fifth day of creation, God made: BIRDS and FISH, SUN, MOON, and STARS, LAND and PLANTS, WATER and SKY, DARKNESS and LIGHT, and God saw that it was GOOD.”

IMG_6280

For the next day we just took a yellow piece of paper (you could use brown, pink, or whatever color you like) and added some googly eyes and then drew the rest of the facial features on. You could also add some yarn or ribbon for hair.

Now if we read our book, flipping back for each page, it says, “On the sixth day of creation, God made: ANIMALS and PEOPLE, BIRDS and FISH, SUN, MOON, and STARS, LAND and PLANTS, WATER and SKY, DARKNESS and LIGHT, and God saw that it was GOOD.”

IMG_6281

Almost there! For the seventh day we just drew some sleepy Zzzzzzzs. You could draw someone sleeping, cut pictures from a magazine of someone sleeping…maybe even print out a picture of YOUR child sleeping.

The song continues: “On the seventh day of creation God took a REST, He made ANIMALS and PEOPLE, BIRDS and FISH, SUN, MOON, and STARS, LAND and PLANTS, WATER and SKY, DARKNESS and LIGHT, and God saw that it was GOOD.”

IMG_6282

Lastly, we added a back to our book and on that page we added an extra “And God saw that IT WAS GOOD!”

IMG_6284

It’s a really craft-heavy lesson, but the kids enjoyed making these books and singing the song all afternoon so I think it will be a great way to remember all the wonderful things God made.

Thanks for joining us. Hope you have fun with this one! Love to you all!

God was.

Hi all! Welcome back!

We are back to July and back to the beginning of the Bible!

Today’s lesson is from Genesis 1 and John 1. The word Genesis means “start.” The book of Genesis is the start of the Bible. But it’s not the start of God…

IMG_6215

Do you know the very first thing the Bible says? It says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” That means before anything else was ever made…God WAS. When was God made? He never was! Isn’t that hard to think about? God always has been and always will be. (Sometimes that makes my brain hurt to think about!) (Psalm 90:2, Isaiah 41:4, 1 Timothy 1:17, Revelation 10:6, Psalm 102:25, Isaiah 44:6)

God made the heavens and the earth…God made EVERYTHING.

That same very first verse tells us God’s Spirit was there and John 1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.” That verse is talking about Jesus.

God has three parts–God the father, God’s Spirit and God’s son Jesus. God the father, the son and the Holy Spirit were all there at the beginning. This is called the trinity. But that doesn’t mean there are three Gods…it’s all the same God…but He has three ways to show Himself. (This can be a tricky concept, even for grown ups sometimes!)

Here is our song for this lesson.

HERE is a song posted by Ryan Folken.

THIS VIDEO is from What’s in the Bible (from the makers of veggie tales–love their material!!)

You can also check out THIS VIDEO which has a demonstration of the trinity from Kid Nation Ministries.

In the beginning, God was. Nothing came before God. God is the first, He made everything else. God the father, the son and the Holy Spirit always have been and always will be. And next time we will learn about the things God made.

For our craft today, we used black construction paper and oil pastels (but really you could use any medium you’d like.) I wrote out “in the beginning GOD was. Gen 1:1” I made the letters for GOD to be bubble letters and the kids filled them in.

IMG_6216

My son added a pizza inside the “O” of God because pizza is one of his favorite things God made haha.

Thanks for joining us, we look forward to studying through the Bible again and hope you’ll join us for the year! Love to you all!

Psalms of Thanksgiving

Hi all! Today we are talking about the book of Psalms. A Psalm (sawlm) is a song.

There is a whole book of the Bible just of songs! Most of them were written by King David (David and Goliath, King of Israel), but some were written by other people.

Mostly the songs are either asking God for help, or thanking God for all He’s done for us.

Did you know you can sing songs to God when you are sad or happy? Even when you are mad or confused!

In America, we have a holiday called Thanksgiving coming up, and it’s where we spend the whole day being thankful for all God has given us. ‘

There are MANY psalms about being thankful to God.

One that is really good for kids is Psalm 100.

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is He who made us, and we are His;
we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the Lord is good and His love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.”

For the month of November, we collected some sticks from our yard and each day we write on a leaf something we are thankful for. Then we tape them to the sticks so by the end of the month, we have a very full thankful tree.  (So it’s currently about 1/2 full). *side note, young kids may need a bit of direction like “what is your favorite food? favorite animal? favorite place to go?” (or else each day they will say they are thankful for the carpet, and the ceiling, or they will say mommy every single day…not that that’s so bad hehe)

IMG_9667

Also for Psalm 100 we used some toy instruments and made music for God. This week we made some homemade microphones. Taking a plastic cup, I cut a strip of white paper and taped it around the cup so the kids could decorate it how they wanted. Then we wrote “Make a joyful noise to the Lord” on the cup. Next, I used some scissors and stabbed a hole in the bottom of the cup and the kids could sing through the hole and the cup acted as a megaphone.

Lastly, could your family make up a song of thanks to God? You can use the “abcs” tune or anything you want, and just thank God for all He’s given and done for you!

Thanks for joining us today. Love to you all!

Job

Hello all

Welcome back. We’ll be finishing out November with some odds and ends from the old testament and a brief history of the 400 “silent” years from the old to new testaments.

Today’s story is about a man named Job (found in the book called Job). We did the “marshmallow” version (found on pinterest) as listed below.

Job was a man who loved God. He was also a very rich man. He had lots of money and sheep and cows. He had a lot of children and a wonderful wife. He was a big important person and everyone thought he was great. He talked to God a lot and tried to do everything God wanted him to do. (hand kids a few marshmallows *could use any treat you have* each time you list something good Job had…but instruct them not to eat them yet.)

One day, Satan (God’s enemy), came to God and said, “You know Job only loves You because You give him everything. I bet if You take everything away, he won’t love you anymore!”

So God took away Job’s children (take some marshmallows), and his sheep and cattle. (take more marshmallows) He took Jobs wife away (take more), He even took Job’s health and he became very sick and ouchy. (take the rest of the treats.)

How do you feel now that all your treats are gone? Are you sad? Mad?

Do you know what Job said? He said “I know You gave me everything, and i know You can take it all away. I will still praise You. I will still love You.”

Job was sad, very very sad…but he still trusted God and knew God was in control.

Job’s friends came and do you know what they said? They said “You must have done something REALLY REALLY BAD! This is a bad consequence for your sins!”

But Job hadn’t done anything wrong.

Job needed his friends to be with him and help him feel better, not tell him he must have been bad. How do you help a friend when they are sad?

God reminded Job that HE WAS in charge and that sometimes sad things will happen to us, but God still loves us. Sometimes when sad things happen, God will help us love Him more. Sometimes, it helps us love other people more. Sometimes…we won’t know why God let the sad thing happen…but we can ALWAYS know that He loves us and will take care of us.

And do you know what happened at the end of Job’s story? God gave him even MORE sheep and cows, more children and he was healthy again! (give kids LOTS of treats they can now eat).

We can always know that God loves us and is taking care of us. We might not get everything good while we live here. But if we love God, we know when we die and go to live in heaven with Him that He will share with us ALL the greatest things, better than anything we have now.

Is there anything sad in your life today? Can you thank God for helping you through it and for loving you no matter what?

For our craft today, we traced our hands, palm up and then cut out a heart. We attached the heart using bendy straws so it would stand up on the hands and look like the hands were lifting up God’s name.

We wrote “God” on the heart and Job 1:21 on the hands. “The Lord gives and takes away, but blessed be the name of the Lord.” Which means, God gives us everything we have and He can take it away if He thinks that’s best…but we can love Him no matter what because we KNOW He loves us and is taking care of us.

Nehemiah

Hi all!

Today’s story comes from the book of Nehemiah.

Some of the exiled Israelites had returned to Judah and were rebuilding the temple, but many were still in Babylon and spread around away from the promised land. One, named Nehemiah was working for a king.

One day he went to the king and looked sad. The king said, “Nehemiah…why are you sad?”

“How can i be happy when i know my people are struggling and my city is a mess?! It’s all in ruins….”

“How can i help you?” asked the king.

“I would like to go back and help them rebuild,” Nehemiah responded.

The king told Nehemiah he would miss him, but it would be ok if he went.

When Nehemiah got back, the city was a mess. The people were poor and sad, and the city was all burned down. Now, back then, each city had its own big big big walls around to keep it safe from other bad guys…but the walls around Jerusalem (the main city in Judah), were all destroyed.

IMG_9284

Nehemiah encouraged the people to begin rebuilding the walls and they all got to work. Everybody worked on the part right by his or her house and together they got a lot done.

But…some of the nearby bad guy neighbors didn’t want the people to fix the walls and they tried to get them to stop. “You think you can actually rebuild this whole thing?! You think this city will be great again?!”

But that didn’t stop Nehemiah and the other Israelites…they kept on working.

Even when the other guys came up with a plan to attack the city…Nehemiah prayed and then told half of the people to stand guard, ready to fight and the other half to keep working.

IMG_9290

The people fixed the gates (the big doors) into the city and each family worked by their house to finish the whole wall. Nehemiah and the people prayed to God to help them and to keep them safe from their enemies…and finally they finished it. Their enemies were NOT happy, but the people came together and sang songs and praised God for helping them.

IMG_9300

All the people worked together and they were able to complete the work. They didn’t even have to go far! We can all work together to do great things for God too and we don’t have to go far either! We can love and take care of the people close to us. We can help keep our church clean, we can help  mom and dad take care of the house, we can help a friend who is sad, or maybe help a neighbor. God can use all of us just by loving and serving the people God gave to us in our school, our neighborhood and our family.

Who is close to you that you can show God’s love to today?

Thanks for joining us, love to you all!

Ezra

Welcome all!

Today’s story is from the book of Ezra.

The Israelites had all been taken captive out of the promised land. King Cyrus of Persia had taken over Babylon and God softened his heart so he decided the Israelites could return home. They went back in three groups. The first group went back and two of the priests, Zerubabbel and Jeshua, and their helpers started to rebuild the temple (God’s house and church). The people worked hard, but their enemies who lived near them kept trying to stop them.

Sometimes when we are doing something that will make God very happy, Satan and his helpers will get people to try to stop us. But we know we should ALWAYS do what makes God happy.

The people had a big celebration and remembered when God had saved His people and led them out of Egypt a long long time ago to the promised land (called Passover). The priests started serving again and even though lots of people tried to stop the Israelites from coming back and rebuilding the temple, God made sure they could get the work done. He even had the kings return the things from the temple that were stolen when the Israelites had to leave. God took the people from the land, and GOD helped them return. He always had a plan for His people and He brought them back home.

But they started to forget some of God’s rules, and a few years later, a priest named Ezra brought some more of the people back to Jerusalem (the capital city of the Israelites). Ezra prayed to God to keep him and the people safe as they traveled. God kept them safe and when Ezra got back to the promised land he reminded the people of all of God’s laws. They had just been in exile for disobeying God and Ezra reminded them of all the words of God so this time they could obey Him. Ezra helped the people understand that a temple for God is nice…but it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t do what He says.

You can go to church every week, read your Bible and pray…but if you don’t DO what God says to do, then it doesn’t really matter. Ezra reminded all the people that God looks at our hearts and cares if we obey Him. Building a fancy church is nice, but obeying God is MORE important.

For our craft today, we made hammers to symbolize the rebuilding.

We also found this video posted by Jelly Telly that gives an overview of the book of Ezra.

Thanks for joining us today, next time we’ll learn about Nehemiah! Love to you all!

Habakkuk

Hi all!

Today’s story is from the book of Habakkuk.

Habakkuk is a short book in the Bible, written by a man named Habakkuk. He was another prophet. Do you remember what a prophet is? A prophet is someone who talks to God and then tells people what God said.

Habakkuk was around during the time when the Israelites were taken from the promised land. He was very very sad about this and he cried. He talked to God and said, ‘WHY GOD!? These Babylonian people are SO bad! Why would You let this happen?! Why would You let us be taken away from the promised land? Why aren’t you coming to save us!?”

God answered, “The Israelites have disobeyed me. Your hearts are no better than theirs. There will be bad consequences for Israel disobeying me. But don’t worry, they will have bad consequences too.”

Habakkuk then praised God, because he remembered that God is always in control. God can do anything. God always has a plan and we can trust Him. God works on His time, not ours. Sometimes we want something to happen RIGHT NOW, but God says “not yet.” God is always on time to help us. Habakkuk knew that even though the people in Judah were making bad choices and that bad consequences were on the way, that God was in charge.

We can trust God too, to always care for us, to listen to us when we talk to Him, and to always have a perfect plan.

Today we made clocks based on Habukkak 2:2-3

Esther

Hi all!

Welcome back. Today’s story is one of my favorites.

It is from the book of Esther.

f77146dfa14ef99dbcad7aa3a20561ee

The Israelites had been taken from the promised land and some of them from Judah (Jews) were living in Persia. The king of Persia was Xerxes. One day, the king had a party and called for the queen. “Come show my friends how pretty you are!”

“Excuse me?!” she said. “No.” The queen refused to show off for all the men, and because she had “disobeyed the kin,” king got rid of her and decided he would pick a new queen.

The king’s helpers went out and found all the unmarried young women and brought them to the castle.

One of the girls they found and took to the palace was named Esther. She was an Israelite, and her cousin, Mordecai took care of her. He visited everyday to see how she was doing and he made sure she didn’t tell ANYONE she was an Israelite.

All of the girls had to take turns going before the king. Most chose to wear a lot of makeup, fancy clothes and jewelry. Esther decided to just be herself and the king chose HER to be his new queen. He liked her very much.

Later, one day while Mordecai was at the castle gates, he heard two of the king’s helpers making a plan to kill the king. He told Esther who told the king and the men were killed, but nobody really told Mordecai “thank you.”

Now King Xerxes had a helper named Haman. He was the king’s best helper, and he expected everyone to bow down to him, like the king. But Mordecai would NOT bow down to him and that made him very very angry. When Haman learned Mordecai was an Israelite, he decided to kill ALL the Israelites.

So Haman went to the king and said, “There are some people here who do not honor the king and do not do what the king says. Now sign this piece of paper that says we can destroy them.” The king said, “Sure…whatever. You can do whatever you want,” and he signed the paper.

Mordecai was really really sad about the news and when Esther found out he was really sad, she sent one of her servants to find out why. Mordecai told the servant everything and he said Esther needed to go before the king and ask for help.

The rule was though, that anyone who walked into the king’s room without being invited, would be killed. Esther was scared.

Mordecai reminded her that maybe God had let her become queen for such a time as this. Maybe God planned to use Esther. She could trust God and not be afraid to do the right thing.

So Esther asked Mordecai to gather all the people and pray for 3 days. She also prayed for 3 days and then…she went to the king.

So Esther got dressed up, tried to be brave and she went to the king…knowing he could have her killed if he wanted to. But when he saw her, he was happy! He invited her in and said, “What can I do for you?”

Esther asked the king and Haman to come to dinner.

At dinner that night, the king said, “What do you really want? You can have up to half my kingdom…anything for my Esther.”

“If it pleases the king, I would like you and Haman to come to dinner tomorrow too!”

“Yes, that’s a good idea! We will come!” answered the king.

That evening Haman saw Mordecai and was so angry, he decided he would kill Mordecai himself. Also that evening, the king couldn’t sleep. He called in one of his servants to read to him. The servant was reading some of the stories of the castle and the king was reminded of the time Mordecai had warned him about the bad guys.

“Did we ever do anything for him?” asked the king.

“No sire.”

“Hmm…bring in Haman!” the king called. “Haman! what should be done for the man the king wants to honor?”

(Now Haman thought the king was talking about HIM, he was SURE the king wanted to celebrate HIM, so…he came up with a great plan.)

“If the king wants to celebrate somebody,” said Haman, “he should put on the king’s best clothes, and ride on the king’s best horse. Let one of the king’s best helpers walk the horse around town and shout, ‘This is what is done for someone the king likes!'”

“Great!” replied the king. “Go do that for Mordecai.”

MORDECAI?! Haman HATED Mordecai!?But he had to obey. So they brought Mordecai and Haman put the king’s best robe on him, and put him on the king’s best horse and he led Mordecai around town saying, “The king wants to celebrate this man. This man is honored by the king!”

When he got home that night, Haman was SO SO angry…but he had to hurry off to the dinner with the king and Esther.

At dinner, the king again asked, “What can I do for you, my Esther? You can have up to half my kingdom…anything for you.”

Esther answered, “If you are pleased with me…please save my people! Someone is planning to kill my whole family! All my people!”

“Who would DO such a thing to my wonderful queen?!” shouted the king.

“Haman. He is our enemy.”

The king was SO angry with Haman he ordered Haman be killed. Just the way he had planned to kill Mordecai, now Haman would die. And Mordecai became the king’s best helper.

The king made a new rule, that the Israelites could defend themselves. And when the day came for them to be destroyed, they fought and won!

Esther was a regular girl, but she trusted God and He had big plans for her. God has big plans for you too and we know we can always trust in God. Sometimes things in life seem scary or we don’t understand why they happen, but we can trust God and see how we can show others His power and love.

There is a cute veggie tales video of Esther. Thanks for joining us today. Love to you all.

Daniel in the lions’ den

Hi all!

Today’s story is a well-known story from Daniel 6.

So Daniel and the rest of God’s people were living in Babylon. They had to work very hard and had a lot of rules they had to follow. They had been taken from the good promised land God had given them because they had disobeyed Him and worshipped pretend gods.

King Nebuchadnezzar had died and another guy was king for a while and then he died and now a king named Darius was in charge.

Darius was really impressed with Daniel. Remember God helped Daniel be really good at making decisions and the King thought Daniel was really organized, smart and in control. He put Daniel and a couple other guys in charge of everyone else. But the other guys in charge were jealous (they were angry because the King liked Daniel more than them). They decided to watch Daniel and find a way to put him in jail.

But…after they watched and watched…they couldn’t find ANYTHING that Daniel was doing wrong. Daniel followed God and made good choices. So the guys came up with a plan.

They went to the king and said “Oh Great King! We have an idea! For the next 30 days everyone can only worship and pray to YOU! What do you think?”

“Ooh,” said the king, “I like that idea!”

So the king’s helpers wrote up the rule and he signed it. Everyone would worship and pray to only king Darius for the next 30 days or else they would be thrown into the pit of lions so the lions could eat them.

But Daniel loved God and he knew he couldn’t follow that rule. He prayed to God anyway…because Daniel knew it is more important to follow God than what other people say. The bad guys were watching and when they saw Daniel praying to God they ran back to the king.

“Hey! Hey! Remember that decree you made saying everyone has to worship only you or else they get thrown in the lions’ den? Well we found someone NOT obeying that rule!”

“Really?” the king answered. “Who is it?”

“Daniel!” they said. “He HAS to be thrown to the lions…it’s the rule!”

This made the king very sad because he really did like Daniel. But the rule was the rule. So they brought Daniel to the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “I hope your God can save you!”

They put Daniel in with the lions and closed up the pit.

The king went back to his castle and stayed up all night worried about Daniel. He couldn’t eat, he couldn’t sleep. In the morning, he rushed to the lions’ den and said, “Daniel? Are you there? Are you ok? Did your God save you!?”

A voice answered back, “Yes King Darius! I am ok! My God DID save me! He sent His angel to shut the lions’ mouths…they didn’t even scratch me!”

The king ordered his men to get Daniel out. The king was so mad he threw the bad guys in to the lions…and they did get eaten up! (Yikes!)

Daniel knew it is more important to follow God and do what He says than to do what other people tell us to do. He trusted God and God saved Daniel. God saved Daniel to show the king and all his men that HE is the almighty God, the ONE who is worthy of our worship and prayer. God shut the mouths of the lions, He can do ANYTHING.

There is a veggie tales of this story, and we also made lion crafts. We used paper plates and some cut outs for eyes and a mouth. Then we glued strips of yellow paper for the mane. Lastly, we took tape and closed the mouths of the lions. (The angel probably didn’t use tape…but this reminds us how their mouths were closed and they didn’t hurt Daniel.)
